Sandy Kaczmarski is a freelance writer, graphics designer and photographer who has enjoyed a professional career in communications for more than 25 years.
A winning performer on her high school forensics team, Sandy became involved with the Drury Lane Theatre in Evergreen Park as an actress, stage manager, costumer, and set builder. She graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and took a job as a news director at a suburban radio station that played only show tunes. After stints in the news departments at WAUR/WMRO Aurora and WJOL Joliet, she joined the newsroom at the Satellite News Network, an innovative venture for its time providing satellite programming to more than 600 radio stations nationwide. She made her way to the Chicago market where she was heard on the airwaves for WLS-AM, WGN-AM, and working the overnight shift at WBBM Newsradio, where she shared the microphone with some of Chicago’s top news talent.
Her work in public relations includes media at Brookfield Zoo, PR director at Blackburn College, and head of public information at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, where she combined her media experience with her love of conservation and environmental issues. She was also the editor of a local newspaper, The Farmside.
She has been published in several area newspapers including the Chicago Sun-Times and is a contributor for HuffingtonPost.com. Her business, Sandpaper Wordsmiths, provides services that include writing web content, speeches, news releases, newsletters, photography and graphic design.
Sandy has been a Rotarian since 2002 and is 2009-10 president for the Rotary Club of Geneva. She has several books in her head, and is working on a web site on the early days at the Drury Lane.
